Kraven is one of the most skilled hunters in the Marvel Universe, and even before he took the Voodoo potion, he possessed peak human strength, speed, and agility, coupled with phenomenal tracking skills. But ingesting that potion transformed Kraven into a man who is a more physically powerful super-soldier than even Captain America, with enhanced senses; his eyes automatically adjust to darkness, he can see over vast distances, and disturbingly, his sense of smell has been amplified to the point where he can track prey by scent alone.
This has caused Spider-Man a lot of trouble over the years, as Kraven threatened to uncover his secret identity by simply following Spider-Man's scent straight into Peter Parker's life.
Kraven is a master marksman, and an expert in the use of melee weapons such as swords, spears, and knives. He possesses remarkable knowledge of toxins and poisons, and has been able to brew drugs that left Spider-Man in a state of suspended animation for days. In addition, Kraven's knowledge of the occult - while basic - appears to have given him the power to control beasts he has defeated, and Kraven has frequently used a legion of animals against Spider-Man and other superheroes.
Scheduled for release on January 13, , Kraven the Hunter is the first Sony Spider-Man spinoff film that stars an outright villain rather than an antihero; assuming Sony doesn't pivot away from the comics, this would also be the first Marvel movie to star a supervillain.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been cast in the starring role, and it will be interesting to see how the character is reinvented, given the background - tied to the Russian Revolution of - wouldn't work quite so well in the present day. The interesting question, of course, is just who Kraven will hunt. Kraven also forced one last person into the conflict, Spider-Man, in an attempt to harden him and push the Wall-Crawler to kill him to free him from his curse. As the hunt raged between the Hunterbots and the villains, Kraven forced Spider-Man into a situation in which he needed to help Curt Connors let loose his alter-ego of the Lizard to save his son Billy from the clutches of the Last Son.
Spider-Man beat up Kraven and made him watch a video feed of the Lizard saving Billy without succumbing to his murderous instincts, also sparing the life of the Last Son, proving that compassion showed true strength of character. Coming to the realization that he was the kind of beast he was seeking to kill all along, Kraven called off the Great Hunt, freeing his prisoners and letting Spider-Man go.
Embracing Spider-Man's nobility and ideals, Kraven donned Spider-Man's costume and intercepted his son to die in battle against him. Since his death was deliberate, therefore by his own hand, and he had "become" Spider-Man in spirit, the curse allowed Kraven to remain dead. He left his son a note in which he expressed his pride for him, and bestowed on him his name and alias, becoming himself Kraven the Hunter. The powers he gained put him 'on the top of the food chain' as they are even greater than those of Captain America, who is himself considered a pinnacle of human evolution.

Even when Kraven joins the Sinister Six, the group's constant in-fighting prevents them from achieving their shared goal.
As crafty as Spider-Man is, one could argue the only reason Kraven has never succeeded in killing him is that Kraven is too honorable. He avoids guns where possible, and he prefers to confront his prey directly rather than striking from a distance. Unlike many Marvel villains, he refuses to take shortcuts. Over time, that repeated cycle of failure begins to weigh on Kraven's mind. The psychological toll of his unnaturally long lifespan doesn't necessarily help, either.

So far, Chandor has never directed anything without at least having a co-writing credit on it, so I suspect he'll take another pass at the screenplay and end up getting that credit again here. Aaron Taylor-Johnson "Kick-Ass," "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has been cast in the lead role , but he hasn't spoken publicly yet about his take on the character or given any insight into his approach to the part.
