If you're training or even going through monster-infested maps, it's likely that you're going to take damage anyway. Unless you're really worried that you won't survive monster attacks without it, you can live without them. It never hurts to carry some just in case, though. I can generally make up the difference in money and pot my way back as nessicary. Its only the lower levels in relation to the enemies in the areas that if you cant kill to get the money to even out, then its probably not worth it just yet.
