How old is kyle strait br

I got hooked up on mountain biking after watching the vids with you and I was immensely glad to see you win the Rampage again. Keep up the good work and good luck! Lets live. Like a speedometer. I would way rather go by feel. I was going to ask this. How is it possible to judge your speed for such a big distance without any way to be sure. I guess it comes down to experience, but still, I always think mostly you guys just clear the lip by a meter or so, even when the landing is so long.

In situations like stunt shows for example, they calculate the exact speed required to make the distance. Whenever I'm hitting something faster or bigger than I've done before, on a bike or skis, honestly struggle to get crashing out of my head.. Do you remember what you were thinking at the edge of the sender during practice? Zink and I in really opened the door for tricks at Rampage in my opinion.

I think having a diverse and complete run is what makes rampage. Did Zink tell you he was gonna flip the Oakley sender? I'm having fun runnign through these comments. Yeah there were a few articles where Zink was talking about it. Everyone knew it was coming Push-ups and riding as much as possible. Also, I pick things up and put them down.

You are certainly a bigger guy on a bike and coupled with those big hits, how does your bike and components handle it? Congrats on the win! The big boy needs the best. Goldenwalt Oct 17, at Obviously you are a well rounded and accomplished rider with victories at Rampage, Sea Otter and other venues over the last several years. Are there any other disciplines that you will challenge yourself with in the future.

Possibly enduro or Super D? I like riding enduro but it sure is hard. Would like to do more DH races. Dude, I see you at Fontana all the time. Bring the GT and join in! Even if you just do practice, get out there with us and have FUN!!! I remember you doing those crazy multiple tail whips in NWDs and now you're winning dual slaloms and Rampage for a second time! How are you such a bawss across multiple styles? I've tried never pigeon hole myself with one discipline, I am a bike rider and thats it.

I like to ride everything and I always have. I would say learning how to pump has always helped in all of the events I have done. When rampage went on a hiatus after , were you ever concerned about where the sport was heading?

Did you think that it would have to come back, or was that just an end of an era? I knew it would come back, but I dont think back then the skills were up to par with todays venue. Let's see it! Robgraham Oct 17, at Hey Kyle congrats on the win dude, as you will probably know lots remember last years comp for the saying "norbs got robbed" and this year iv heard a few say "kelly got robbed" theres always gonna be differences of opinion, some say zinks flip shoulds won others say kellys and other say your whole run was better but what do you think regards to it?

Did Norbs get robbed last year? And finally if you wanna ad to it - what can the judges do to make it more even??? Rampage is a big mountain contest not a stunt show, Cam and Kelly made mistakes and I didn't. McGarry lost when he ran off line into the bushes at the end, also stalled out up high.

The correct call by the judges. Thanks for addressing that Kyle. It's one of the things I've had issue with in recent years. Like more weight went to certain tricks because they look cooler even if they're not more difficult and guys get credit for them even when they're done sloppy and landed sloppy.

They always say Cam McCaul is the case for that last year. The dude hit it hard, smooth, technical, huge, creative hit something no one else did but he didn't do any fancy back flips so he got dropped way low. You went big, smooth, creative, fast, etc But in other cases it didn't work out for other guys. This year Tyler McCaul. I felt like if you were first Zink went huge and nuts but did one trick. I think he finished right where he should have.

I had it Ferry But I'm no judge That was the most insane thing I've ever seen But like I said But honestly I just wish everyone got all their runs in.

I think we would have seen even more insanity and the standings would probably have been different. But I'm from Santa Cruz Way to kill it and show all mountain skills. I'm glad you were rewarded for it. Its a judged event, its always going to be a tough call when the level of riding is that high. Rampage isnt a stunt show? Remember Zink road the same line at the top, I think that is what gave me the advantage over Kelly.

Thank you that was the honest reply i wanted dude. No one can really argue with that and i think your right in the sense that it is a big mountain event. We should have more big mountain events that focus on big mountain and not tricks - until its separate there's always gonna be arguments about who won Once again well done dude. For sure I am scared. Gotta get the mind straight before you drop in. Congrats Strait!!!! Hey just wondering rampage is such a one off event with nothing else like it in the fmb series or anywhere else, I'm just wondering like how do you guys prepare yourself for the such massive drops an jumps, ur run was so flawless!

Raw eggs, jogging up stairs and beating up cold meat. Congrats on the win Kyle. What were the first words your dad said after your win? Also, can you estimate the decibel level he said it at? He said he was so proud of me.. He has always been there for me.. Real close to tears. That is great. Thanks for answering. You're a true champion and sportsman. The comradery between you and Zink was awesome to see.

No reason you cant be friends as well as competitors. DHmanu Oct 17, at I once heard you rode with travis pastrana when young, is that true, do you even know him?

Yes I rode at his house back in the day. I think I was 15 and he payed me money to to a tailwhip. Kyle, pretty sure if they did a speed trap on your run you'd be in jail right now, you're a rocket dude.

Looked like you really had to nail that sucker square and ride it out clean. Was it too narrow, do you think? Logan's crash was pretty hectic Although from a different takeoff. Hey man congratulations on the win at rampage, it was sick and I don't even want to imagine how your second run would have been!

Here's my question: on Sunday after rampage I was reading the July issue of bike magazine, which is strategically in my bathroom as reading material during dumps, and you were on the cover and it said "kyle strait, is he the worlds greatest mountain biker? Do you think you made the article justice? Stay safe and congratulations again! MikeyG79 Oct 17, at Any advice about hitting a big jump or steep drop for the first time? I seem to have a hard time when my nerves get the better of me Is there some mind tricks that you could suggest to help me stay confident?

Work your way up to and when it is right you will know. Hey Kyle big congrats all the way from Ecuador, so much flow and style in your run! You'd probably kick some ass! Thank you!!! I haven't done any training like that but would like to someday. Zink has alway tried to get me to do it. Maybe this winter. You should definitely try it, I've been training for some years now, have actually stopped a bit because of biking!

It's also a long term process to get really good at it, but its amazing physical training as well as psychological. Again props on the run, I hope I can get that master steez on the bike some the day!

What kind of a career would you want post-professional biking? Awesome seeing your run in person, so inspired!! My boyfriend and I left rampage early during all the wind pause stuff to go ride some more before leaving Utah. We were so pumped just to go ride after seeing you all blow our minds every run! I hope the event stays on the west coast.

I would like to stay in the industry but, being a mailman sounds like a cool job. AdamChed Oct 17, at Bike Mag's July issue had a story on your coming up in the bike industry. Zink coined the term COS for you because of your dad's involvement in your career in the early years, does your dad still carry weight in your career now?

Congrats on Rampage win 2! My dad has made me to what I am now He is a giant supporter of me and always be there for me. He has been at both rampages that I have won.. Thank you! Just a question, any advice to give a rider who's just getting back from injury? I broke my tailbone a couple weeks ago and it's been rough No riding. Use the injury as a motivation. All that time off the bike is just making you hungrier. There is no loop, ride for yourself.

Mojo Oct 17, at At which point in your life did you realise you were bonkers? You do crazy shit really well, most ppl would give up or die before getting there, when did u figure that out? XCNewfie Oct 17, at Not a question, just a fan. Been watching you since your first go in Rampage. You rock man, love your riding style. Cheers boss! Congrats on the Win at RBR as well! Hey kyle hope its not too late to get another question in - The new GT fury this year has done really well in the world cups and Gee has loved his which clearly showed in his results.

How have you found it? Iv been checkin out the carbon from last year its a lil more price friendly. Would you consider hitting up FallFest at Windrock? Direct flight to Knoxville, feet of vertical, tons of trail variations Get on a plane! East Coast Kyle, congrats on the WIN and it was great meeting you! You won Rampage twice and also the first to make a full grown man make a mess in his pants from dropping the sender!

I'm not sure Brad crapped himself cause of me, that guy is pretty old. Antoncio Oct 17, at First of all, great win man! First question: do you think your run deserved to win?

Second question: have you ever heard of the riding going on in Brazil? If you have or not did you ever considered coming here to ride? Thanks and sorry for my bad english I went to the world cup in Brazil. It was very fun. Conspiracy theory here. Did you hold up the line at Rampage because you knew if the event got called you'd be the winner.

I heard some riders behind you felt they could have run with the wind as it was? I would have loved if that were the case, but it wasn't. I had some things left I wanted to do, I think I got robbed. RobbieAlec Oct 17, at I am thinking first year 3 events.. I think its a very fine line. There has to be a balance.

First of all congrats on the win, your line was sick! After seeing the video T-Mac just posted on facebook which gives a much better appreciation of his drop which looked huge, was natural and had what looked like a much steeper approach compared to the sender. He also flipped the feature just above it and still lined up and hit his drop cleanly! It seems the wooden features have taken over in the judges mind and avoiding them lowers your overall score.

Do you think his line should have gotten a higher score? First off, Tyler rode like a man and I am so proud of him. He went first, which is undoubtedly the hardest thing to do at any competition in the world, let alone Rampage. His line did get a higher score on the second run, for that run to count everyone would have had to have done a second one.

It wasn't possible on that day and its a shame Tyler and Andreu's didn't. In the end it's a judeged competition and its based on opinions. Cheers for the reply! Its a pity the whole thing had to be called, it was obvious everyone including yourself was bummed out. Would really have loved to see you hit that line again, im sure you would had a few more things to throw in with Zink following you up with that flip!

Props again on the win and serious props to all you guys doing such crazy shit to entertain us! You rock! Riding with you and Jamie was a memory of a life time for sure! I was just wondering, was it hard to get used to the new model or was it a pretty smooth transition?

I instantly felt awesome on it! Great riding with you. Hope to do it again. Congrats on the win at the gnarliest contest that ever existed among men! What mental preparation do you do when you are sitting on top of the ridge looking at the drop in? Same thing as always. Think about the cold brews at the bottom. TheAlbino Oct 17, at Kyle Strait. You are the freaking man. I had stopped and talked to you at Sea Otter this year and even though you seemed like you had a lot to do and places to be, you had no problem stopping and talks with me and a few others of my friends.

Thanks for not letting this get to your head and being a real down to earth dude. You are an inspiration and a machine. Congrats and a I wouldnt complain if you got a third Rampage win, cause youre the guy that deserves it. Thanks dude. Yeah dude, we do all of this for you guys. Where is the landing for the lowest drop on the Icon Sender. Judging by the pictures it looks like the flat take off drops directly into the landing of the upper take offs.

Did they really build it that small or is there a landing I haven't seen yet? Do you ever ride with the Athertons, like at the quarry that Dan built? Or do GT riders not necessarily see much of each other? Yes of course. Been riding with them all the years they would come to cali to train.. Sharonb Oct 17, at Hey Kyle, congrats! I watched Wades vid of , you were there in Sure this is progression, but do you think it adds to the risk?

Would you like to see more bigger lines built so you can do bigger stuff? Or more natural, therefore more uncertainly, so more skill involved I know a big concern is the bigger you guys go the greater chance of injury, most of you seem to show good judgement.

All of you are good and the person who is on that day will win. Do you think more natural lines would make the event more interesting and safer? Also, the closer you guys are to the ground, the less affected by wind ToTheTop Oct 17, at Hey, Kyle! With the season dwindling down I'm only hitting the last of a few unsactioned races. Last race I went to was an open class Super-D and I can honestly say I pushed to hard due to the older competition I'm 16 by the way.

I ended up taco-ing my front wheel after the first stage, but I took it off and beat it against a tree for some natural truing and it seemed to do the job and I raced the last two stages. What do you think? SirLyle Oct 18, at Haha awesome getting that wheel back in. Yes you have to find where you ride comfortable.

But, you need to get comfortable riding at that percent pace. You will settle down it just takes some time. How bad was the wind at rampage on a 1 to 10 scale? What were you thinking when you rolled into the sender? Blackout mode, I hope I'm going fast enough, I hope I'm not going too fast. Haha classic, well u got it perfect.

Steez for days! Campbellp Oct 17, at It's not my opinion, but I put out a good line and the judges agreed. TamKid Oct 17, at This one's bigger. The event has progressed so much. It's on NBC now, so many people know about it. Also being a little older I can appreciate it more. And multiple wins is huge What do you do to prepare yourself mentally for taking such extreme risks? And how do you stay calm to do the things that you know will make it a success.

How's the view off the new Oakley sender? What were your thoughts about the new Oakley Sender? Did you plan on doing anything other than a no-hander off of it? Yes I had a few other options. Depending on it I needed to or not. What is the worst injury you've had, and do you get anxiety from being away from your bike while injured? I broke my back a few years ago. It took me a while to get confidence back.

Had to just keep working on it. Bennyy4x Oct 17, at Warpf Oct 17, at Were you worried about Cam trying to do the backflip of the sender? No one worries about Cam, he worries for you. I think you definitely deserved the win but if you could have it your way would you want the event to be finished properly the next day?

I would definitely have loved for it to end the right way, I felt good, and had more in the tank. I am pretty sure we had an extra bag floating around!! So stoked for you and Zink!

What is your longest wizard stick? I have got to Busting your chops! So biggest wizard stick? Do you think the next rampage should be more natural or continue with built features? I love the natural stuff, but obviously a crux move in my line was built. I think there is a perfect balance. Yes I have a salsa garden. I mostly died when I was at rampage.

How long have you been riding the new Fury? Do you like it more than your old one? Hi dude, congrats to win rampage, Can we hope to see you in some movie??

Lemonade and Duck Tape Stuffs, its going to rule. Kyle, you're obviously a big guy compared to some of the other riders out there. Do you think that helps or hurts you in an event like the Rampage?

What in a more standard FMB event like Crankworx if you were to compete? It's like I'm wearing body armor all the time. In the picture above, I think you bear some resemblance to Marky Mark. If you had to listen to one of these two, which would it be? What do you mean "had to", I am listening to both on a playlist right now. What suspension settings were you running at rampage?

If you happened to know. Any plans for new video parts soon? We are working on a major piece coming out soon. We worked on it this year. Pretty sick.. Should be on itunes. How far are you guys willing to go for that perfect ride? Kyle, thanks for taking the time to answer all our questions. Do you still have that bear suit from ?

Can you tell us stories of the bear? I'm thinking you probably have crazy memories to share! No my mom rented it for me I have also been a polar bear too. Have you won anything with the polar bear suit?

Or was it just to be cool pun inteded? Malcolmr Oct 17, at Neither Stevie Smith or Sam Hill answerd my question will you? I loved Sorge's run last year. Bourdon has always had amazing runs too. DanielScott Oct 17, at What was one of the toughest moments for you throughout your career, and how did you overcome it and push your way back to the top?

Congratulation on your 2nd rampage win what psi were your tyres during rampage. How do you like the New GT Fury compared to the past carbon model and did it play a large part in your decision to sent it off the big drop? I would have hit it on the last fury but, I did feel must better on the new fury. A few weeks ago, word on the street was you were planning on running carbon wheels at rampage based on your past experience with them at Crankworx.

What did you decide and why? How heavy is that Fury? Yes I was planning on that.. I wasnt able to get them in time to test so I rode my regular Novatec Demon wheels Its right at 37lbs. I dont want it any lighter. Your pretty damn good on your DJ from previous videos and post.

Are you still progressing with your DJ skills and what is the newest trick you have learned to do on both DJ bike and DH bike? I mean besides winning is there any tricks or lines you wish you would have done? Super stoked for you btw! An other question:A favourites motto? Loose is fast, and when your on the edge you're out of control - Days of thunder. Moe Oct 17, at Acorn22 Oct 17, at Hey Kyle dude you won Rampage, that's like every freeriders' dream! My question is what kind of music do you listen to to get pumped for big events like this?

Thanks, and congrats! Whatever song was stuck in my head at the time.. Congrats on the win, you killed it out there! What advice do you have for someone aspiring to be a big mountain rider? Is there like a certain set of skills you need to have before you go out and ride that kind of stuff? The move set the stage for many more epic moments to come from Zink at Rampage. Amid the carnage and chaos of Rampage , Canadian Kurt Sorge pulled an amazing run filled with flips, huge drops and gnarly lines to take mountain biking's most coveted prize.

Rampage was the year of the first repeat winner. The Rampage would be the final contest held in the event's second venue , , and The next year, , would usher in all-new terrain with Rampage's third venue.
